With 2017/18 being the first year of implementation of the 2016 Super Reforms, we look at how these reforms will affect the preparation of 2017/18 and following years’ annual financial statements for an SMSF.

This webinar is designed to focus on SMSF accounting issues to assist SMSF auditors to satisfy their PD requirements in area of SMSF accounting.

The webinar will include worked examples and cover:

  • A quick review of what must be included in an SMSF’s annual financial statements
  • How changes to pension rules can affect recording pension payments in financial statements
  • The new approach to claiming Exempt Current Pension Income (ECPI)
  • Accounting for defined benefit pensions – is it being done correctly?
  • Maintaining reserves in an SMSF – the ATO’s view and how to deal with them
  • Accounting for insurance premiums and proceeds and the TBC
  • Transition to Retirement Pensions – moving into retirement phase
  • Accounting for LRBAs and interaction with Total Super Balance and Transfer Balance Cap
  • Should an SMSF adopt tax affect accounting?
  • Accounting for disposal of an asset with deferred notional CG from applying CGT relief in 2016/17
  • Accounting for death benefit pensions
  • Accounting for contributions, rule changes for deductibility of personal contributions and the new Downsizer contribution

There will be time allocated for attendees to ask their SMSF accounting questions.

Prior to his current role with SuperConcepts, Mark spent considerable time in accounting practices and SMSF administration companies, including running his own accountancy practice and SMSF administration and compliance advice company for ten years.
