The unfair contract provisions of the Australian Consumer Law took effect on 1 July 2010, in relation to consumer contracts, and 12 November 2016, in relation to small business contracts. In this program, barrister Anand Shah, from the Carbolic Group Chambers, at the Queensland Bar, reviews the main requirements of the legislation, and the relevant case law, to identify key issues in drafting and reviewing contracts with standard terms, as well as the consequences where a contract falls foul of the provisions.

Anand Shah joined the Queensland Bar over 20 years ago after practising as a solicitor for eleven years. Anand's practice areas include succession, commercial litigation, administrative law, defamation, personal injuries and human rights.

Anand has appeared as counsel in the High Court of Australia, the Queensland Court of Appeal, Federal Court of Australia and as trial counsel in all Queensland State Courts, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia and many Tribunals. Anand is a nationally accredited mediator and has acted as a mediator in a variety of disputes including succession, personal injuries, commercial, and professional negligence.

Anand has been elected by the Queensland Bar, on many occasions, to serve on its Bar Council (the Bar's peak executive body). Anand has presented at legal conferences for over 20 years and has written for LexisNexis over a similar period.

Anand is President of the Asian Australian Lawyers Association (AALA) (Qld Branch). AALA's main aim is to promote cultural diversity in the legal profession.

Some of Anand's spare time is made up of reading fiction and cookbooks, listening to the radio and vinyl records, and watching classic and arthouse movies
