About the Webinar

The saying “patience is a virtue” could easily be sound tax planning advice when considering the most tax effective way to extract funds from an entity. This session explores various scenarios where a bit of thought to the future may achieve a more desirable tax outcome, including:

  • Comparison of the tax effect of paying dividends now or later, including:
    • whether a future “drip feed” approach may prove tax effective
    • dividend management of recipient marginal tax rates year by year versus a lump sum withdrawal on wind up
  • Tax timing differences, including accelerated depreciation provisions, and managing dividend payments to maximise franking credits
  • Situations when associated persons may be eligible for tax effective redundancy payments (TR 2009/2)
  • Tackling commercial debt forgiveness issues, including:
    • forgiveness of a debt via a will (sec. 245-40 ITAA 1997)
    • timing of the forgiveness of a loan post death (ATO ID 2012/77, PBR 1051889347103)
  • Proactive practical strategies to reign in the Division 7A issue of the “my company funds are my funds” client mentality
  • The benefits of implementing a testamentary trust into the estate plan for share or unitholding ownership
  • Practical examples
