About the Podcast

Shared parental responsibility has been the prevailing feature of Australia’s family law system since its introduction by the Howard Government in 2006. All this is set to change, however, with the Family Law Amendment Bill 2023. The Bill, which will take effect from May 2024, is the biggest shake-up in family law since the 2006 amendments and will introduce significant changes to the objects of the Act, best interest factors, the role of the ICL to name but a few. In this session, Peter Hooper, accredited family law specialist and director of Hooper & Mill Family Lawyers in Queensland, shall explain the amendments as they relate to the determination of parenting matters and what the future holds for shared parental responsibility in Australia’s family law system.
