About the Podcast
Verification of identity has always been central to the validity of property transactions, and is now even more so with the prevalence, post pandemic, of electronic conveyancing. In this program, Matthew Ray, from Craig Ray Associates in Brisbane, provides a guide to: the role of solicitors in verification of identity, or VOI, and the related verification of the right to deal; the regulatory framework, and the VOI Standards which provide a safe harbour for solicitors; “reasonable steps” in VOI, and when should “further steps” be taken; and the practical issues in implementing VOI compliant practices and procedures in legal practices.
