About the Webinar

This webinar is part of TEN’s “Back to Basics” range of webinars which are specifically produced for junior practitioners. This webinar is priced at only $99 as our way of giving back to the profession and providing a cost effective means for firms to provide CPD for junior practitioners.

The theory of affidavits is clear – they should set out the factual matters on which the relief sought is based. Yet in practice, affidavits are constantly criticised by the courts for their irrelevance, excessive length and poor structuring. This session will provide a guide to best practice drafting of affidavits and how to avoid costly mistakes, including:

  • What is the purpose of an affidavit?
  • What the rules say about format and content
  • Evidentiary rules including heresay, opinion and admissibility
  • Writing tips for presenting compelling arguments
  • When are attachments appropriate?
  • Common problems and how to avoid them
  • Strategies for drafting an affidavit in response
  • The consequences of poorly drafted affidavits
