About the Webinar

The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with a Disability is due to release an interim report at the end of October 2020 on education for people with a disability. This session will examine how some of the issues raised over the course of the royal commission’s hearings, submissions and reports may impact schools going forward, including:

  • Management of “invisible” disabilities, such as mental illness
  • Improvements to the implementation of reasonable adjustments
  • What constitutes “good practice” for disability management in educational institutions
  • Strategies for preventing neglect and exploitation of students with a disability
  • A focus on inclusion rather than exclusion from mainstream schools
  • Resources, support and training for educators
  • Increased accountability and oversight for compliance with laws and regulation
  • Imposing reporting and monitoring obligations through greater regulation
  • Auditing your school’s management of students with a disability and looking to the future.
