About the Webinar

Most tax problems don’t arise because advisers get the law wrong — they arise because a key planning step wasn’t taken early enough. This session focuses on the practical points where foresight matters most, where a failure to plan can lock clients out of concessions, trigger avoidable tax bills, or complicate intergenerational wealth transfers. With a focus on realistic, high-impact strategies, this session brings clarity to the planning steps practitioners should consider before transactions occur and before clients make strategic decisions. Topics include:

  • How careful planning is critical in changing individual tax residency – from CGT perspective and managing your main residence exemption
  • Estate planning strategies where timing and foresight are critical, including managing the adult non-dependent child super death benefit tax issue, planning for non-resident family members, and using testamentary trusts effectively, including managing potential implications of section 99B in this context
  • Trust loss planning, control tests, and how patterns of distribution influence future deductibility, and how it interacts with the trust laws such as fiduciary obligations of the trustee
  • How distribution of trust income can become costly under anti-avoidance provisions in Division 7A and section 100A of Tax Acts and how to effectively manage
  • When restructuring should be considered, including choosing between rollovers, and recognising when an existing structure is no longer fit for purpose
  • Preventing long-term issues with family trust elections and interposed entity elections through early, deliberate structuring
  • Practical case studies illustrating how small planning decisions can significantly change tax outcomes
