ABOUT THE RECORDED WEBINAR

This session provides an overview of owner builder obligations and what a conveyancer can do to overcome potential problems at the point of sale, including:

  • What level of building work is caught by the legislation? What is domestic building work?
  • How is an owner builder defined?
  • Is a person who engages a registered builder to undertake the work an owner builder?
  • What are the duties and responsibilities of an owner builder?
  • Obligations of the owner building when selling the property, including:
  • Time limits for selling and legislative obligations
  • Obtaining a defects inspection report – requirements for the qualifications of the report author and time limits
  • Domestic building insurance to protect a prospective purchaser
  • Section 32 disclosure of building permits
  • Are any works exempt from the defects inspection report?
  • Contract of Sale requirements and statutory warranties
  • Strategies for negotiating responsibility or compensation for defects or incomplete work identified in the defects inspection report
